The Plasma Laboratory — Where Science Meets Discovery
A revolutionary new feature has arrived in Erleuchtung: the Plasma Laboratory. This is not just another game mechanic — it’s a full research simulation where you experiment with plasma fusion, discover unique recipes, and earn one-of-a-kind NFT tokens that exist on the blockchain forever.
What Is the Plasma Laboratory?
The Plasma Laboratory is a 3D research reactor where you combine color tokens from 195 countries to create plasma spheres, then merge them under specific conditions to make discoveries. Each discovery is unique — the first person in the world to find a recipe receives a non-fungible token (NFT) minted directly to their wallet.
Think of it as a particle accelerator meets alchemy lab, powered by your travel achievements.
How It Works — Five Steps
1 Rent the Reactor — Pay 0.001 CC (1 Euro) per hour for reactor access. During your rental, you can create spheres and perform as many merges as you want.
2 Create Spheres from Color Tokens — Each sphere is made from a country color token. You have 195 countries to choose from — that’s 195 different colors. When you create a sphere, one color token is permanently burned from your wallet. You earn color tokens by traveling to countries in the game.
3 Set Properties and Merge — Each sphere has three adjustable properties: temperature, energy, and density. You set these with sliders, then merge two spheres together. The merge checks if your combination matches a hidden recipe.
4 Collect Research Hints — Each day, your PMU (daily reward) has a ~20% chance of dropping a research hint for a random recipe. Hints reveal partial information: which countries are needed, what shape to use, whether you need extreme cold or heat, and what size the spheres should be. Four hints per recipe — collect them all to narrow down your search.
5 Discover and Earn NFTs — When you find a recipe that nobody has found before, a unique ERC-721 NFT is minted to your wallet. This token is the only one of its kind in existence — forever. You can trade it on the marketplace, display it in your collection, or hold it as a piece of Erleuchtung history.
195 Colors — Not Just 5
The previous version of the reactor had only 5 plasma colors. The new version uses all 195 country color tokens from our blockchain. Each country produces a unique plasma color derived from its flag, with base properties determined by its continent:
| Continent | Energy | Density | Temperature |
|---|---|---|---|
| Asia | High | Moderate | Warm |
| Europe | Moderate | High | Cool |
| Africa | Very High | Low | Very Hot |
| North America | Balanced | Balanced | Balanced |
| South America | Moderate | Moderate | Moderate |
| Oceania | Low | Low | Cold |
This means the spheres you create behave differently depending on which countries you’ve visited. A sphere made from Japan (Asia) will have naturally high energy, while one from Australia (Oceania) will be cold and low-energy. You need to plan your experiments around the tokens you have.
Chain Merging — 2, 3, or 4 Spheres
Not all discoveries come from merging just two spheres. The Laboratory supports chain merging:
- 2-sphere merges — The simplest experiments. Common and uncommon discoveries.
- 3-sphere chain merges — Merge two spheres, then merge the result with a third. Rare discoveries require this technique.
- 4-sphere double chain merges — Merge two pairs separately, then merge the two results together. Legendary discoveries demand this level of complexity.
Each sphere carries its lineage — a record of all the original countries that went into it. When you chain merge, the system combines lineages and checks recipes that require 3 or 4 specific countries.
The Search Space — Why Brute Force Is Impossible
With 195 countries, 6 shapes, and 3 sizes, the number of possible combinations is astronomical:
| Spheres | Color combinations | With shapes + sizes | Brute force time |
|---|---|---|---|
| 2 | 18,915 | 6,128,460 | 13 years |
| 3 | 1,216,865 | 7,096,756,680 | 16,202 years |
| 4 | 58,409,520 | 6,131,597,771,520 | 13,999,081 years |
Even a script running 24/7 could not brute-force all 2-sphere combinations in 13 years. And that’s before considering the property requirements — each recipe also demands specific temperature, energy, and density ranges.
Anti-Scripting — Built In by Design
We designed the Laboratory so that automation provides no advantage:
- Token-burning — Every sphere burns a real color token. You can’t spam experiments without owning tokens, and tokens require travel (which is time-gated).
- Pity timer — The system guarantees you’ll find something within 15 consecutive misses, so patient human players always make progress.
- PMU hints — One hint per day, randomly assigned. Scripts get the same one hint per day as humans — no speed advantage.
- Stability gate — Your spheres must reach at least 66% stability before any discovery is possible. This requires balancing the property sliders thoughtfully.
The Test Button — Patience Pays Off
Some plasma reactions don’t happen instantly. The Test button starts a 5-second countdown — during this time, your spheres are pulled toward the center of the reactor chamber. Only after the countdown completes does the merge check happen.
This introduces a time dimension to the experiments. You set your properties, maximize the stability bar, hit Test, and wait. The anticipation is part of the experience.
If your stability is below 66%, the Test button is disabled — you’ll see exactly how stable your setup is and what you need to improve.
Reactor Upgrades
Three upgrade paths let you push your reactor beyond its default limits:
- ❄ Isolation (Temperature) — Allows higher temperature values. Without this upgrade, the temperature slider is capped at 80%.
- 📈 Energy — Allows higher energy values. Same 80% cap without upgrades.
- 🛡 Stability (Density/Pressure) — Reduces explosion damage and lets you work with more extreme conditions.
Each upgrade requires 9 PMU parts, which are rare drops from your daily PMU. There are 3 levels per upgrade path, bringing the maximum slider range to 100% at level 3.
Explosions — Handle with Care
Extreme conditions can cause reactor explosions. If both spheres are extremely hot with high energy, or if there’s a massive temperature difference between large spheres — boom. The reactor takes damage, and repairs cost CC from your wallet.
The damage system is visual: the chamber’s energy field turns from blue to orange-red as damage increases, with visible cracks appearing in the containment field. Camera shake adds to the drama.
Discovery Tiers
Not all discoveries are created equal. There are two tiers:
Tier 1 — NFT Discoveries (Unique)
These are the real recipes, stored in the server database. The first person in the world to find each recipe receives a unique NFT. Once claimed, the recipe becomes public knowledge — anyone can reproduce it, but only the first finder gets the token. The server generates a replacement recipe to keep the pool full.
Tier 2 — Research Discoveries (Virtual)
The pity timer system ensures you always make progress. After consecutive misses, the probability of a virtual discovery increases: 10% base + 5% per miss, guaranteed at 15 misses. These give 3-5 Plasma and appear in your experiment log, but no NFT is minted.
On-Chain Security — The DiscoveryToken Contract
Every Tier 1 discovery is secured by a smart contract on our blockchain. The DiscoveryToken (ERC-721) contract ensures:
- Global uniqueness — An on-chain nullifier prevents the same recipe from being claimed twice, across all servers worldwide.
- Cross-server protection — Even if you play on multiple servers (US, IN, EU2, SG, MAAS), a recipe claimed on one server cannot be claimed again on another.
- True ownership — The NFT lives in your wallet, not in a database. You can trade it, sell it, or transfer it independently of the game.
- Transparent history — The blockchain records who found each recipe and when, forever.
The Experiment Log
Every action you take is logged in the Experiment Protocol — a detailed record on the left side of the screen:
- Sphere creation: which country, shape, and size
- Merges: which countries and shapes were combined
- Discoveries: the name, NFT token number, and rarity
- Explosions: the cause and damage amount
- Stability warnings: when your setup was too unstable
The log helps you track what you’ve tried and what worked — like a real laboratory notebook.
Research Notes — PMU Hints
The Research Notes panel shows your accumulated hints from daily PMU rewards. Each recipe has four possible hint types:
- 🎨 Colors — Which countries are needed (but not how many spheres)
- ◆ Shape — What shape the spheres must be
- 🌡 Properties — Vague temperature hints (“extreme cold required”)
- 📏 Size — Vague size hints (“large plasma masses”)
Hints are intentionally vague — they guide you in the right direction without solving the puzzle. You still need to experiment with exact property values to find the match.
